The story behind the print
This surreal cat and crane chess poster depicts a black cat and a white crane facing each other across a chessboard. The board sits on a low, dark table with curved legs, while stylised swirling waves in cream and beige flow beneath it. The background is a solid, deep red that makes the two animals and the chess pieces stand out clearly.
The composition is centred and symmetrical, with the cat on the left and the crane on the right. Chess pieces in light and dark tones are arranged on the board, and the crane's long beak points toward the cat. The artwork uses an illustrative style with fine linework and a limited palette of black, white, cream, and red, giving it a graphic, slightly vintage feel.
