The story behind the print
This unframed paper print features a green praying mantis in a poised, upright stance against a plain cream background. The insect is drawn with teal and black ink-style shading, and its folded forelegs, long antennae, and segmented abdomen are clearly defined. Two red kanji characters sit centred below the mantis, adding a vertical typographic element to the composition.
The artwork uses a restrained palette of teal, dark green, black, and cream, with fine linework and subtle cross-hatching that give the mantis a textured, illustrative quality. The composition is centred and vertical, with the insect occupying the upper two-thirds of the frame and the red characters anchoring the lower section. This layout makes the print suitable for a study, hallway, or living room wall.
