The story behind the print
This unframed paper print depicts an Indian woman in profile, seated on a balcony and holding a steaming cup of chai. She wears a green floral dress with a pink patterned shawl draped over her shoulder. A round tray sits beside her, holding two small clay cups, a bowl of snacks, and green leaves. Heavy monsoon rain falls in vertical streaks against a backdrop of dark clouds and a distant city skyline.
The artwork uses a muted palette of forest green, soft pink, cream, and deep blue. The composition is vertical and centred, with the woman placed to the right and the rain filling the upper half. The flat illustrative style uses textured brushwork and simplified shapes, giving the scene a calm, atmospheric quality. The steaming cup and falling rain create a strong sense of a rainy day indoors.
