The story behind the print
This Japanese cat and cherry blossom poster features a calico cat in profile, seated beneath slender branches of pink blossoms. The cat's white, black, and tan coat is rendered in soft ink washes, with fine linework defining its whiskers and paws. A smaller blossom branch reaches toward the lower left, while three fallen petals rest on the warm beige ground.
The composition balances the cat's curved tail against upright stems and scattered blooms. Calligraphy and a red seal appear in the upper left, adding a traditional Japanese art reference. The muted palette of beige, pink, black, and tan gives the illustration a gentle, contemplative mood suited to bedrooms, living rooms, or studies.
