The story behind the print
This Japanese cat and demon poster shows a red oni with bared teeth beside a blue-faced figure in a white headband, both set against a striped background. Below them, a ginger cat reaches a paw toward a grilled fish on a white plate. Bold red kanji characters and black calligraphy sit between the figures and the cat, anchoring the composition.
The artwork uses a warm beige ground with red, blue, black, and ginger tones. The cat's focused expression, the fish's striped skin, and the oni's sharp horns are drawn in a flat, illustrative style with visible linework. The top panel and lower table scene create a stacked layout that reads like a traditional woodblock print.
