The story behind the print

This Japanese street lantern print depicts a steep stone staircase at night, lined with glowing red paper lanterns that lead the eye upward between dark wooden buildings. Green foliage frames both sides of the steps, while warm light spills from a window on the left and a signboard hangs on the right. The wet ground reflects the lantern glow, adding depth to the rainy scene.

The composition is vertical and centred on the staircase, with a palette dominated by deep greens, dark browns, and vivid reds. The illustrative style uses soft lighting and detailed textures to evoke a quiet, atmospheric mood. The lanterns form a bright diagonal line that contrasts with the shadowed architecture and leafy plants.
