The story behind the print
This Japanese tea house poster centres on a hanging paper lantern marked with a single kanji character, set against a textured green background. A red-framed panel shows a seated musician playing a stringed instrument, while two columns of bold vertical calligraphy anchor the lower right. The composition uses black, red, and cream against green for a strong graphic contrast.
The artwork is built from flat shapes and woodblock-style silhouettes rather than fine detail. The lantern hangs from a dark beam at the top, the musician sits in profile within an orange-red rectangle, and the kanji columns are rendered in heavy black strokes. These elements give the print a cultural, illustrative character suited to a kitchen, dining area, or hallway.
