The story behind the print
This unframed paper print shows orange koi fish swimming through stylised blue wave patterns and dark green reeds. The fish are drawn with textured scales and flowing fins, set against a repeating background of curved water lines and fan-shaped plants. The cream base and teal blue waves give the scene a calm, rhythmic feel.
The design follows a Japanese woodblock style, with bold outlines and a limited palette of orange, blue, and cream. Koi appear at different angles, some rising and others turning, which creates movement across the vertical composition. The pattern repeats evenly, making it suitable for a gallery wall or a quiet corner where a water-themed print can sit alongside other nature-led artwork.
