The story behind the print

This Japanese-style koi fish poster features a single red and black koi swimming upward against a muted beige background. Bold black patches and white scale outlines define the body, while flowing red fins extend from the sides and tail. A decorative border of multicoloured oval shapes frames the composition, adding a rhythmic, patterned edge to the artwork.

The palette combines deep black, vivid red, and white against the neutral ground, creating strong contrast without extra detail. The fish is centred vertically, with its head near the top and tail sweeping downward, giving the design a clear upward motion. The surrounding border uses repeated orange, brown, and red ovals, which echo the koi's colours and reinforce the graphic, illustrative style.

This unframed paper print is produced to order in the UK on 270 gsm premium satin paper using a 12-colour Mimaki UCJV300-160 printer with authentic Mimaki OEM inks. Each print is rolled and packaged by hand and is available in multiple sizes through the Size selector. The frame is not included.
